Powhatan High School
Replacing the Powhatan's old high school offered the opportunity to enhance and enrich successful academic programs that bring value to the community, provide for emerging and developing programs and technologies and provide a true 'community center', reflected of their values, where people gather, meet, exercise, eat, surf the net, enjoy cultural events, and learn. The house layout allows for configuration by grade level, interdisciplinary instruction, or departmentalized instruction.

The new Powhatan High School provides virtually a 24/7 amenity to the public.  After hours the interior of the building becomes alive with many activities — most occurring right in the large public spaces and corridors:  students use the Commons for band ensemble; the cross-country team runs throughout the corridors, the dance team is practicing in the 'Main Street' along with the cheerleaders; in the auditorium, drama club is practicing; the gymnasium hosts an 'open gym' session; teachers are training in the computer lab; and meetings are held throughout the building.
