Veritas Classical Christian School
In just a few short years since Veritas Classical Christian School began in 2000, enrollment has grown to over 160 students, kindergarten through eighth grade. The Master Plan provided by BCWH is a strategy to help grow the campus on the current site of Crestwood Presbyterian Church in Richmond.
BCWH worked with Veritas to identify the features of its classical educational methodology and the ways in which its buildings and campus should respond to and support their unique culture. The physical plan introduced the complexity of existing spaces in use and shared with the existing church, along with new spaces to be developed cooperatively with the school. The plan first builds adjacent to the existing church and in successive phases onto the new property, creating a central courtyard at heart of the school. The library overlooks the courtyard and covered arcades surround and connect the spaces around the yard. Each of the lower and upper schools occupies a wing with a cadre of particular support spaces. Site work is phased to parallel the building development and provides parking, drop off areas for the younger grades and athletic field and play spaces. The well-detailed, classically inspired existing church building provides a supportive and consistent point of reference for the stylistic development of the campus.
